A mammoth piece of work involving oral histories is being launched by Ansar Ullah’s Swadhinata trust this coming friday 18th May at Toynbee Hall. Sadly I will be thousands of miles away. I picked up a copy the other day in Brick Lane. I have glanced through it and hope to write a short review at some point.

Diaspora

So Anwar Hossain and I have finally kicked off our project on the bengali diaspora. This week we were in London focussing mainly on bengali drug users. We finished off late on friday with a most harrowing encounter with a young user. And whilst we were reasonably happy with the progress we had made, this encounter deflated us and left us speechless.

I hope to give details of a new site where you can follow our progress. In the meantime, if you are London based, and can help out in any way..contacts, day to day assistance, moving photographic equipment, or if you have interesting diasporic stories etc….please get in touch.
